American Idol – Shout to the Lord – part 2

Great to hear this modern classic in the mainstream. So glad that Jesus' name was re-inserted!! I so agree with Dave W's balanced view of this. Featuring this song on American Idol neither added nor took anything away from Jesus' profile, I think. It simply blessed those who sang it and provided them an opportunity to respond to God's call to devotion. It also provided our Righteous Judge evidence of those who would worship Him with their lips but whose hearts are really far from Him. In his grip, too! Pablo

Hey Chris, you talked about maybe getting some inside info. Hillsong holds their own publishing rights...correct? So I am assuming AI had to get the rights straight from them to sing the song. That would probably mean that Hillsong had to approve them changing the lyrics. But, I am curious if they didn't ask for permission and then the following night they had to change the lyrics back for fear of legal issues. Now THAT'S what Im interested in finding out in all of this :)

It was just weird, is all. Nothing is sacred, for sure, in our culture today.

My jaw dropped last night just hearing the song also, but in a good way. I want it to be crystal clear to everyone that I fully believe my Jesus (my Creator, my Provider, my Shepherd, my Lord and Savior) doesn't need American Idol to deliver His message, diluted or otherwise to reach those he wants to. I think we can all agree it's good to hear about him in unexpected places. The King of kings did not gain or lose one iota of His power, majesty, or glory as they aired both versions of the song, last night and tonight. He remains the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. There are plenty of things to boycott in this world, basically anything that doesn't eidfy or uplift Christ or anything that detracts from His glory (I have to try and boycott my mouth all the time, but His grace overflows that much more to remind me to stay the course and it humbles me with His glory). If someone feels compelled to boycott something, please only do so after prayer and some reflective time with your Jesus, your Shepherd. When we react emotionally in this earthly body, we can come of as a modern day Pharisee condemning everyone and everything in sight. This can cause lost sheep to ignore the free gift of salvation and shoot for a works and deeds. They miss the mercy paid for by His blood. Remember the old hymn "What a Friend We Have in Jesus"?
