Where is it coming from??
I rarely never talk about politics here in blogworld but I’ve just got one question about this whole bailout fiasco.
Where the heck is Bush getting this $700 BBBBBillion to make it happen??
The US is already $400 BBBBBBillion in debt. And so now he’s found some magic treasure tree with million dollar bills hanging from it?? Seriously – this is insanity!
Check this quote - it’s attributed to Bono but whether or not he actually said it, there is a profound statement here. We have officially lost our brains.
“It’s extraordinary to me that the United States can find $700 billion to save Wall Street and the entire G8 can’t find $25 billion dollars to saved 25,000 children who die every day from preventable diseases.”
UPDATE: This seems a little more reasonable of an explanation of what’s happening -

I was listening to the radio this afternoon and heard that they do expect to view this as an investment. Buying these mortgages super cheap, then selling them for a profit when the market gets better. They were even talking about profit in the trillions.
We’ll see, but it sure made me feel a little better about that.
And Bono continues to be one of my heroes!
Mccain is using us with Bush’s help. There is no “economic crisis.” Remember, “it’s all in our heads,” and “the fundaments of our economy are sound.” These are Republican qoutes.
The $700BEEEEEEELLION is coming out of my pocket. seriously.
This whole bailout mess is ridiculous.
What most people fail to understand is that ol’ uncle sam is bailing out private companies. PRIVATE companies. My tax dollars are going to clean up the mess that private companies have made by mismanaging and screwing things up.
I’m totally opposed to it, investment or not.
And as far as Bono’s quote goes, it’s noble, but should read more like…why can’t everyday average people band together and raise trillions of dollars to help those children.
I can’t understand why people think it’s government’s place to run social programs. They’ve failed at it so far. What makes us think it’s gonna get better?
Yeah. 700 billion in my pocket. After a while of US politics, you just sigh and shrug your shoulders. But what’s the alternative? If they’re to be believed (big IF), then the global economy will tank.
I’m not all that worried. Markets crash, but then they come back.
Chris, anytime you want to join the ranks of US taxpayers, come on down!
