Catalyst Church closing

I heard today that Catalyst Church in Greenville, SC will be closing at the end of April. They have expressed some financial struggles the past little while and it sounds like all of that just caught up with them. I’m not only sad to see a church close its doors but I’ve had the chance to email back and forth with a couple of their staff guys and I’m sure they must be heartbroken over this. I know that they love God, they love the people of Greenville and they love Catalyst and I can’t imagine what it must have taken to make that decision this week.

Three of the Catalyst staff guys blogged about telling the news to the church this morning – Casey Ross, Ryan Fitzgerald and Jake Miller. Head over to their blogs and let them know you’re praying for them.

If you’re interested, here’s the video of Casey making the announcement -

Hey Chris! Thanks for the kind words. Yes, it was the most difficult decision I’ve / we’ve ever had to make. Sad. Frustrating. Heartbroken. So many words we could use to describe it.

I really appreciate you praying and asking others to pray.

We’re going to bring Catalyst to a close in the right way! And I cannot wait to see how God glorifies himself through all this. It is going to be special.

I find it interesting that a Canadian is talking about a church in Greenville, SC… i just moved to Thompson, Manitoba after living in the Greenville area my whole life… Its really sad when this kinda thing happens, especially to a church thats really doing great things… Greenville already had at least 3 churches on every road, but in the past few years all kinds of church plants have popped up. I think its a great thing, but unfortunately, most of those newer churches don’t have hefty bank accounts and rich old people tithing…
