A couple of years ago I got frustrated with something pretty significant in the Canadian church to the point where I had to do something. I was seeing all of my worship leader friends embrace songs from all over the world – mostly the US, UK and Australia – but wasn’t really seeing many worship leaders doing the hard work of digging in to their local congregations to uncover the unique songs God was giving to the Canadian church.
No worship leader would ever say something like “The only songs God will use to change Canada and the Canadian church will be from other countries” but that’s exactly how the vast majority of us were programming our services.
Two years ago 12 of us got together to see what would happen if we focused on writing songs for the church. It happened. So we tried it again. It happened again. We’ve been repeating these events across Canada since May 2009 – 14 events in 4 provinces, over 125 songwriters involved.
Last summer we released our first EP – four songs written at our events by Canadian worship leaders. The beauty of the people involved is that all of these songs were tested and tried in our churches before we decided to record them. We released it last July, went #2 on iTunes Canada and have seen these songs sung in dozens of churches across Canada and the US.
So many of you are new to the blog since last summer, would you consider supporting WorshipRises by spending $4 of your new music budget on the WorshipRises EP?
